Status Report

as of June 3, 2008

 

1. We have raised $165,010, including $150K pledged donation.

 

2. We have worked on the following five projects on fund distribution.

 

2.1 Our local team has put together a program (

侨星剧场) to play movies for students in tent schools in Mian Zhu, Deyang during the week of Children’s day. They also brought books, clothes, and other gifts to the children in the strike area. Today is the third day of the program. The board has approved RMB 10,000 budget for this project. More details about the program and other news coverage will be available shortly.

 

2.2 A local account has been set up at ICBC Deyang branch to help us with fund distribution. The first $6000 was wired to that account to finance relief projects approved by the board.

 

2.3 We are considering set up a separate program to offer financial aid for students from strike area on college education. If possible, the program can also cover middle school and high school students.

 

2.4 Due to the lack of trained physiologists, we have to postpone the psychological counseling project that tries to help children experienced the shock or losing of family members during the quake.

 

2.5 Since the government has put together a relief program to help the senior high school students to prepare the coming national college admission exam. The board has decided to cancel the original proposal on doing some work on this front. We will keep close eyes on those students, and step in whenever we can help.

 

3. We have built a strong team in Deyang and US to execute the fund raising and distribution. Please contact us should you or anyone you know who might be able to help us on the foundation.
